Unwaning Light (Anesperon Fos)
New religious show
of the Archdiocese of Thyateira
and Great Britain

Dearly Beloved viewers of the religious show, 'Unwaning Light',

I take special joy in welcoming 'Unwaning Light', which was launched via Hellenic TV, London, on 12th November 2011. This show is presented by Presbyter Savvas David Vasileiadis, and is aired every Saturday evening, at 7.30 p.m. for half an hour, including short intervals of Byzantine music and images. It is then uploaded onto a special website, ( This show is a continuation of the show which was co-ordinated for decades by Protopresbyter Joseph Paliouras, priest-in-charge of the Church of the Twelve Apostles, Hertfordshire, North London. In addition to this, there is also the radio programme 'Church Voice' which is broadcast by the Archdiocese every Monday evening via London Greek Radio (LGR).

I strongly recommend 'Unwaning Light' for two reasons: first of all, it is a well-researched presentation of interesting themes that are easily perceived and understood; secondly, contemporary society has an urgent need to hear the everlasting and saving teachings of our Holy Orthodox Faith and Worship.

The agenda of the aforementioned television show is of great interest to all who desire to delve into the priceless treasure that is Orthodox Faith and Worship. Therefore, along with the comprehensible theological analyses of a rich number of subjects, there will be presentations concerning the lives and works of the Saints and Martyrs of the Church, Byzantine Chant and iconography, and topics of a sociological and spiritual content.

For these reasons, this series of television shows will not be merely monologues by the presenters, but will also include interviews with special guests, who will provide as far as possible a fuller picture of the subject under discussion. Naturally, your own comments regarding the content and presentation will aid the presenters to improve their work.

I strongly believe that these shows will make a positive and decisive contribution to strengthening the religious awareness of our Orthodox people. I would therefore like to thank Hellenic TV and LGR for hosting them, as well as Presbyter Savvas David Vasileiadis, to whom I wish every success in his work.
